• Hey all,

I want to build a car website. I thought I would try my hands on using custom taxonomies so they are sorted properly and easy to find.
Would you recommend I use page or post taxonomies? What are the advantages of using one or the other?

I already have a page for my CARS, and I was thinking of adding pages for each individual car and add taxonomies such as manufacturer and price. But I realized I can achieve the very same thing using posts, with a category of CARS, can’t I?

    Any replies are greatly appreciated

  • Hi,
Interesting question. When you mentioned taxonomies, I thought of Drupal, which uses that terminology a lot, and has massive flexibility for it, but a fairly large learning curve.

You’re right, you could go either way in WordPress. I would lean towards Posts, because, as you said, Categories can be very easily used. You could have many categories, in fact, such as Mini-Van, Sedan, whatever, and also Categories within Categories.

You could also play with Post tags, and do Tag Clouds.

    Cheers, Dave

There are just so many different ways to achieve the same thing, it is well hard to know which way is the better.
Well, thanks for your advice Dave. I can’t wait to get started!
