Hey, I am trying the free version of the Open user map-plugin to see if it fit my needs. I like it very much, but it does not show the published pins on every browser. Safari specifically – but it works fine on chrome.

Do you perhaps know what can cause this issue?

    Hey @heleneis,

I checked your page but currently there are no locations available at all. I just added a location for testing. Could you please approve it by setting it public?

    Best Regards,
    Daniel

Hey Daniel, thank you for your reply!

There were 4 locations published before the one you added (in norway), so very strange that you did not see them. But I have now published your test ??

    Hi @heleneis,

Okay, now I can see your 4 locations but not mine. Are you sure they all have status “published”?

However – in my testing these 4 locations show up in Chrome, Safari and Firefox. Without errors. Can you confirm that they do not show up right in your Browser?

Maybe it’s a Cashing Issue. Do you use any Page Speed / Caching Plugin? If so – please disable and try if it makes a difference.

    Best Regards,
    Daniel

Hello, yes I am certain. There are now 7 published locations, and both me and my colleague have tested.

I only see four locations in incognito mode in safari.
Maybe it is the cache as you said, I have the WP rocket plugin

Hello again, we clearly found our issue, which is within the cache. Is there a way we perhaps could clear the cache automatically every time someone adds a location? We are going to buy the pro version, where we dont have to approve every location you see.

Yeah, good to hear! From the plugin site I can’t trigger the cache clearing as there are too many different caching plugins available. Instead you should exclude the page with the map from caching. See this article on how to do this.

If you are happy feel free to drop a quick review as it helps my plugin to reach a broader audience.

Anyway, welcome on board and thumbs up for your project.

    Best Regards,
    Daniel

Hello again, and thank you. I dont see how this will help as the problem is that we need the caching in order to make the locations visible?

Can you please clarify how you think it will help?

Hi. Not sure if I’m getting you right. I’m trying to clarify a bit:

You don’t need caching to show the map and the locations. Actually the caching is what prevents from showing all current locations on your site.

The solution is to deactivate caching in WP Rocket specifically for this page where the map is included. In my last post I shared a link on how to do this with WP Rocket.

    Technical Background:
The Caching results in showing an “old” version of the map. And it is not triggered to renew its cache.

    Does this help @heleneis?

Hello again, Thank you for clarifying, it makes more sense, but it does not seem to work unfortunally.

I tried with exluding the cache by checking of the “never cache this page” as you mentioned, and then both me and my colleague made a new location, and after I approved and published them they still don’t show up.

So it seems that we actually need to cache and refresh every single time we publish a new location as that is the only thing that works as far as we have figured out, which is a bit unfortunate.

Maybe you can show us a website with a map that works and we can test it on that website?

Hey, I wanted to check back again now to let you know the locations showed up after a bit without me doing anything, so it seem to have helped after all. Thank you.

It took about 5-10 minutes before they showed up, and we would like them to show up immediately. Is there a way?

As we are thinking about buying the plugin so that we dont need to approve every location, how can we be guaranteed that the locations will show up for the users right after submitting the location?

Hmm.. I don’t have an explanation why there is such a delay. The Plugin code is pretty straight forward and is probably not what is causing this delay. Maybe your Server Hosting does have some additional caching mechanism baked in?

I would suggest you test the PRO version with the auto-publish feature. You can start a free 7-day trial and if you need more time on top just let me know.

PS: I will activate the auto-publish feature (for the rest of the day) on my Demo page. So you can try there as well.

Thank you so much for opening up your demo for us, there it works perfectly so it seems we have some issues with our specific website or something.

We will try the pro free trial and see what happens. Thank you! ??
    You have been very helpful.
