Thanks for adding the ‘swipe’ feature! I’ve been waiting for that for a long time (I tried the 1.9 beta, but there were issues). Unfortunately, version 1.9 broke the ‘pinch to zoom’ capability. That is, I can no longer zoom an image using two fingers. While I LOVE the swipe (because users are so accustomed to swiping that when it didn’t work they were confused), I think the pinch-to-zoom is more important. I have a test site with the 1.18.19 installed where the pinch to zoom works. It’s here: thelesters.net/tlntestsite. thelesters.net has 1.9 installed where the swipe works, but not the pinch to zoom.

Thanks for your plugin. I’ve been using it for many years. I appreciate any help with the pinch to zoom feature.

  • Hi, indeed the detection of swipe makes the native zoom be ignored. I’ll try to work on a fix for that… In the meantime, could you try to switch to the newer fancyBox 2 script version and see if that one has the same issue?

Sorry for the dumb question, but how do I download fancyBox 2? I searched in github, but couldn’t find anything with that label. I also looked on WP plugin site. Is fancybox 2 the same as the 1.9.1 version at github?

Sorry, I did not explain it well: it is the first option in the FancyBox section on Settings > Media in your admin. You can change script version there…

Thanks. Now I remember seeing that option. I tried it. The ‘pinch to zoom’ still doesn’t work. And it has another problem. On my mobile, when I select a photo from the gallery, it is very small – thumbnail size. This problem isn’t there on the desktop computer. And, this problem isn’t there with the ‘Classic Reloaded’ version. You can see what I mean on my test site, where I have selected the fancyBox 2 version. My test site is here: thelesters.net/tlntestsite.

Hi Joe, thanks for setting up that test site! I see what you mean.

The problem stems from the fact that your theme is not mobile-friendly and is missing a viewport meta tag.

Could you switch to the Legacy version to see how that behaves on your theme?

    (@joe777)

Yes, you’re right, it’s an old theme. It uses the old thematic framework theme, so I have a child theme. It’s on my list to update it, probably using the Astra theme and the Elementor plugin, but I don’t know when I’ll get to it. Until I do, maybe I could add the viewport meta tag. I wasn’t familiar with that until you mentioned it. I’ll look into that.

I tried the ‘Legacy’ setting. You can see it at the test site: thelesters.net/tlntestsite. It works fine, except that swipe doesn’t work. ‘pinch-to-zoom’ does work. So, I guess if I want ‘pinch-to-zoom’ and not swipe I can use legacy (rather than reverting to version 1.8.19), and for vice versa, I can use ‘Classic Reloaded’. I’m hoping you find a real easy way to get them both working on Classic Reloaded ?? (if (two fingers) { use native;} – I know I’m over simplifying and don’t know what I’m talking about).

    Thanks again for your help.

Indeed, the Legacy version does not recognise swipe. The (native) two finger pinch/zoom is currently suppressed in Classic Reloaded in favour of swipe detection but I’ll try to find a way to allow both…

    Thanks for reporting ??
