Pingbacks

Hi,

I use wordpress in lots of different–probably unintended–ways. On one of my sites, I insert the block posts directly into the database, not through the wp-admin or through the supported remote publishing methods.

My question is, do pingbacks occur when I do this? I regularly link to other sites and would like them to be notified. If not, is there a php command that will invoke a pingback so I can cause a pingback to occur?
