Pings and trackbacks

  • Hello, I hope this is the right forum–Miscellaneous
    I am opening comments and don’t know

    what pings and trackbacks are
    if I should use them
    or how they show up
    Are they needed for comments or do they increase spam?

    But I did find the definitions, I just don’t understand anything about them. I have seen “ping this address” but have no understanding what that means.

    I would like to know if I should check the box or not and why. What happens then?

    Also, it sounds like spammers use this too.

    Is there any info on the “INS and OUTs” of this phenomenon?

    It really doesn’t matter either way. Some people just like to know and/or display who is linking to their posts.

    No – your theme would also have to be coded to show pings. Not all themes do.

    One more question, how would I find out about this. You seem very knowledgeable.

    Do you know of blogs or you tube that further my understanding?

    what it is, how to use it, why I would ping,. It must be important.

    People know how to ping if they are asking for it. I don’t know if this forum is the right place to learn it.

    Any suggestions?
