Pinterest ignoring alt tex on images and using full blog text

This problem has me mystified! Setting up a new site, so one post and one page so far. Both have a single image in the article and the same image set as the featured image.
In each case, the featured image and the image within the article have the same alt text. Yet when I try to pin from the page/post one image is giving the Pinterest description as the alt text and the other is pulling in the full text from the article!

It is even more pronounced on this page where again the image in the article and the featured image both are the same image, both have the same alt text. Again one is picking up the full page text when pinning. What the hell am I doing wrong here?
