Hi David, I’m afraid that your new update v 5.4 (which selects the Featured Image as the Pinterest shared image) breaks the Pinterest sharing for me using the TinyForge theme. Basically no images at all show for pinning unless a Featured image is set, but if a featured image is set then only that single image is available to be pinned, ignoring any other images in the post. It’s great to be able to select the featured image if one wants to force share only that image, but otherwise you can’t pin any other images (unless using a Browser PinIt button or something like that). Maybe you could restore the previous functionality and add the “Only Pin Featured Image” as an option?

    All the best David

    Hi there,

Sorry about the bother. Please note that if you set a default Pinterest image under the Advanced tab that image will be used if no featured image is set – https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B6V2ZYkCIAAb7_e.jpg

I’ll have a think about the best way to implement the option for you.

    Thanks,

    David

Hi David, Happy New Year and thanks for the very quick reply.

I’m afraid I uninstalled v5.4 and went back to v5.1 so I didn’t notice the new default Pinterest image option on the on the Share Buttons Advanced tab. There’s nothing there on v5.1.

I looked at your https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B6V2ZYkCIAAb7_e.jpg link but I didn’t really understand what it would do.

    Hi,

Thanks, happy new year to you too!

Setting a default Pinterest image means that if no featured image is set for a post, that default is used instead.

This means that a user will always be able to pin from that post/page.

    Hope that explains it.

    Thanks,

    David

I’m still having this same problem without using any advanced settings, pinterest doesn’t find any image to pin. I prefer not go through the trouble of setting a featured image, being most my posts just have one image anyway, not to mention, at least on my end, I only have to option to set a universal default pinterest image, which is definitely not ideal, or a “facebook featured image” on posts themselves, I haven’t tested to see if the facebook setting works for pinterest.

Anyway could you somehow fix this so it just lets the user pinning pick an image from the page like most pinterest share buttons?

I am having the same issue. When I go to “pin” an image, Pinterest doesn’t find any image to pin. I, too, don’t want to set a featured image.

This just started happening when I updated to the lastest version. Thanks.

Update: BTW, setting a featured facebook picture did not allow pinterest to work, so atm, all I could do was set a default pinterest image. Being pinterest users often pin things with cool pictures so to speak, it makes no sense for every page on different topics to have the same picture. ??

Hi David, thank you, yes I understand what you mean now. Looks like I’m not the only one that’s not thrilled with the way the Pinterest share button works though. I use WordPress SEO to set specific images to share for Facebook etc and that does make sense but I have to say (although I still love your Plugin ?? I much prefer how the Pinterest button worked before considering how Pinterest itself works.

I will stick with the older v 5.1 for now and hope you have a change of heart :-).

    All the best David

How do you downgrade to the older version?

    Thread Starter milkyco

    (@milkyco)

To downgrade you would need a backup of your sites plugins directory with the older version of the plugin and it’s just a matter of replacing the share buttons directory with the older version.

    Hi all,

The old approach has been reverted to by default in the latest version 5.5

For anyone wishing to stick to the featured image approach, this is available under the advanced tab – https://ge.tt/44wriz72/v/0

Sorry for the temporary disappointment all.

    Thanks,

    David

Thanks, David, for reverting back to the previous way. Really appreciate it.

Awesome! Thank you for the great plug in ??
