• hi,

i’ve got the TFS filters on my site… and yesterday (September 19) i made a post with the pirate filter enabled on the post and comments.

but now today (September 20 – here in Australia at least) i made another post and i did not enable the pirate filter, but the post has still been processed by the pirate filter?!

is this just some global WordPress thing for Talk Like a Pirate Day? will it go back to normal after the 19th?

  • You’ll have to contact the author of the plugin on that one. They may have improperly coded it or there may be a bug in their code.

I mean, look at your blog, all posts, not just the one from the 20th, are being piratized.

    wow… it is… i didn’t notice that before.

well i’ll leave it unitl tomorrow – perhaps when it’s the 20th (world-wide) it’ll go back to normal. then again – it would have been nice to know that the filter was going to do this. i might drop the author an email.

    That’s intentional behaviour.

It will and it has. I suspect that the date/time settings on your server were offset which would account for the “lag”.

The plugin probably uses server time rather than blog time.

well i checked this yesterday (21st September here in Australia) and my site was all back to normal. *phew*

well i left a comment on the authors blog – but no response yet.

but it looks to me like the pirate filter automatically takes over on 19th September each year. i guess the only way around it would be to disable the filter. but it’s just a bit of fun… and only for one day…

    EDIT>>
sry – i didn’t refresh the page before my reply. thanks for the help guys. ??

If anyone else is surprised by this, there are instructions in the readme.txt file that comes with the plugin on how to turn it off the automatic piratization on Talk Like A Pirate Day.

But why would you want to? It’s so cool.

    Arrr!
