    Hi,
this is what we wrote to support of WPForo:

we recently have a problem with the display of images on the forum pages. They appear roughly pixelated here, unlike on the blog where the same images appear normally.

We have been using the plugin “Converter for Media” for a long time to reduce the amount of data and create modern image formats like WebP and AVIF, so far without problems also on the forum pages. Both WPForo and Converter for Media have had updates in recent weeks, but I can’t assign the occurrence of the problems to a specific date.

Does anyone have an idea, could someone please take a look at it?

Since “Converter for Media” might also be involved, I would be happy if you could also take a look at it.

    Thanks for caring!

    Bernd

    Hi @berndg17,

Thank you for your message. Do not worry, I will try to explain you everything below.

Can you describe in more detail what the problem is?

    Best,
    Mateusz

    Hi Mateusz,

WPForo is a board plugin. It is inserted as a shortcode in a WordPress-page. It has an own caching-system. We are runnig it for years, it is a fine piece of software.

If I now put a certain image o a forum page, like in the sidebar or the head section etc., it is strongly pixelated since a while. If I put the same image on a page outside the board, it looks totally normal. For test reasons, I put a image with 840 KB (that size for testreasons) in the head on the board, the file size is reduced to 10 or 11 KB, an the image is pixelated.

There had been some updates by Converter for Media and WPForo in the last weeks, but I can’t pin the occurrence of the problem to a specific date. However, it is definitely new.

The support thread at WPForo is here.

    Thanks for caring!

Thank you for your answer @berndg17,

Could you send me screenshots and show what image you mean exactly?

I opened the gate at https://www.alkohol-ade.com/community , so maybe you can see it more easy live there?

@berndg17 Sorry, but I don’t know which images you mean. Could you send me screenshots and show what image you mean exactly?

Sent it to your mail adress. Thanks, Bernd

@berndg17 You sent me an example of an image called “Buchcover-für-WPForms-200px.jpg”. Thank you very much – I checked it.

Interestingly, this image is displayed in JPEG format, not in WebP format. It has not been converted to WebP, so there is no way that my plugin will affect the quality of this image in any way.

This is indeed highly interesting, because if I put an uncompressed file there for testing purposes, it will also be downcompressed to this quality, and as you say as JPEG, not WebP.

To check this, I have now deactivated your plugin and loaded an image with higher resolution at this point. Cleared all caches (browser, WP Rockt and the forum’s own cache system) – and again I find the image reduced to 12 KB, and pixelated.

You are off the bus, your plugin was disabled. Thanks for your time and help!

@berndg17 There is probably another plugin that is causing the problem.

Please let me know when you find a solution to this matter. I am very curious what causes this problem.

Yes I will. Started already the activate/deactivate tour, but will surely not finish today (only if I should have great luck) …

I’ve had a bit of luck on the fly and started with the most recently installed plugins. Apparently the “Embed Plus YouTube WordPress Plugin Pro” interferes with your plugin, because when I disable this plugin, the image reappears as WebP again. Unfortunately still pixelated, but I’ll take care of that tomorrow …

@berndg17 Perhaps the pixelated image issue is due to something else, e.g. the image size is too small or the image quality is set to low when WordPress generates sub-sizes.

    Hi Mateusz,

happy new year! As promised, here my report about the solution (well, somehow). It is a problem with the editor of the Ad Manager-plugin of GVectors. To be honest, I ran in the same problem two years ago, did not remember the stuff and found my own support thread there.

This is what I answered another forum member there, who was complaining about the same problem without help:

I ran in the same problem again and needed some time to remember this older thread. For test reason, I put in a picture of 1200 width in the visual editor or something like that, then of 640 – and the output was always the same, 330×113. Minified, pixelated, unreadable. We have a plugin running that produces modern image formats like WebP and AVIF, but it took the jpg always.

You have to hardcode it in the text-editor, putting in the wanted pictures name and width, then it works. I never experienced this with the normal WordPress-editor like written above by GVectors support, but at least it works, although it’s not comfortable at all. But the image reacts responsive.

    Thanks for your support, Bernd
