PixelFed ? Mastodon ?

Can you post your author page, so I can have a look?

Is there a private means by which I can provide my URL for your inspection?

Using Site Health I discovered this error notice.

Note: My site is within a subdirectory (domain.com/summer), yet the Webfinger endpoint points to the main domain only.

Would this be the culprit? Although, I’m not certain why PixelFed would be working while Mastodon is not.

WebFinger is not a direct part of ActivityPub, so not every platform do require it. Mastodon is requiring it and it seems that pixelfed does not require it.

Thank you for such a quick and precise response. I’ll hold off any further (and hopefully unnecessary troubleshooting) for after I migrate this site to my root directory.

It sounds like this may sort itself out, at that time.

@xizor before you migrate your complete blog, you could try to setup WebFinger by hand, you can find some help in the FAQ of the plugin (“What if you are running your blog in a subdirectory?”). I hope this helps.

I’ve installed webfinger (by way of your settings page of recommended plugins).

I’ve moved my site to the root domain.

My author page still only appears in PixelFed searches, and not in Mastodon searches.

Working Solution!

After installing the ActivityPub Plugin – complete the following steps:

• Use https://webfinger.net/lookup/ to test for a successful or failed retrieval of your webfinger file – if failed or not working, continue with steps below.
• Login to the Cpanel of your hosting account.
• Navigate to folder “/.well-known/”
• Create a blank new file called “webfinger” (no file extension needed – just “webfinger”.)
• Open a second browser tab and navigate to https://YOURDOMAIN/?rest_route=/activitypub/1.0/webfinger&resource=acct:jouni@YOURDOMAIN?– just copy paste the output of this into your fixed webfinger file at .well-known. (customize this URL to reflect your website address and author).
• Copy the contents of the browser output into your own newly created “/.well-known/webfinger” file.
• Save the “webfinger” file.

You did it! Congrats!

It does not work for me:

Gives me a wrong host error:

{“errors”:{“activitypub_wrong_host”:[“El host del recurso no coincide con el host del blog”]},”error_data”:{“activitypub_wrong_host”:{“status”:404}}}

Hosting provider give me a workaround on .htaccess rewrite rules that let ActivityPub work (I could reach my blog on the fediverse) but that rules will result on Let’s Encript (LE) fail to renew my certificate, because LE works against /.well-known/ folder and the rewrite will make LE certificate renew fail.

I never get a correct respose to https://webfinger.net/ lookup even with the rewrite rules.

More ideas?

@alb1978 you have to remove the https:// from your WebFinger ID. The correct URL is: https://www.productordesostenibilidad.es/?rest_route=/activitypub/1.0/webfinger&resource=acct:[email protected]

Thanks, it looks nice now and I can reach my blog through mastodon servers.

The question, now that the blog has a presence on fediverse, is how do I follow others, accept following requests, manage followers, private messages and other functions?
