    Hi
    Using Pixova-lite theme.

I want to create a child theme. When I follow the guidelines to the letter (I think!) I can see the child theme in my lists of available themes. When I switch to the theme I get all the theme components but format is all wrong – font sizes/layout etc.

    Any help/advice appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Hello,

There is most probably a functions.php misconfiguration and it does not import the style.css into the child theme.

Please have a closer look here:

You might want to try out a plugin to take care of this as it could set up everything out of the box.

    Hi, Thanks for the info.

I took your advice and got exactly the same result – a visible child theme to select but when I activate it, my text content is there as I would expect but the layout/format is wrong .. no images despite them being there when I view the content in the customise theme section .. any suggestions as to what I may be doing wrong?

I am using ‘Child Theme Configurator’ which has a good rating and many thousands of active installs..

    All suggestions/alternatives appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

    Hello,

I will need to replicate – investigate this on my environment and will get back to you with more information.

If you are more comfortable with it, you might want to take this issue to [email protected]

    I’m sorry for the trouble.

    Hi,

    Thanks for your update.

I installed a fresh WP instal on my local machine using MAMP – Ensured everything was fully updated and installed the Pixova-lite theme and the ‘Child Theme Configurator’ plugin.

The only change I made to the theme was to select the single page option.

The website looked exactly as I would expect ..

I then installed the child theme with no reported errors. I activated the child theme and found the same errors as before – incorrect font sizes, graphics overlaying text etc.

Is this best handled by contacting the email address to supplied as I don’t want to assume you have the time to spend investigating it ?

I also appreciate that this is the lite version of the theme I am using but it is my intention to purchase the full version. All I am doing pre-purchase is ensuring it meets my needs which it does if I can sort the child them problem out.

Should/Could I use a plugin for custom code and avoid the child theme altogether?

Many thanks again for your time.

    FS.

I’m experiencing the same exact issue with this child theme, everything is great when viewing the customize theme section/live preview but format is a mess on the live site. Looking forward to some feedback on this!

    Update:
It appears that all of the widgets and images (Except posts) are just samples so they’re removed when the Lite version is published, which likely causes the formatting issues. I inserted some random text in each section and it looks perfect. I’ve been going at this for 3 days, go figure I just needed to put my own content/images in!

@flyingscotsman It seems to me that you don’t get the style.css imported, but it’s hard to locate the exact issue without any kind of live preview, screenshots or anything else, that’s why I was asking you to get this to support@machothemes (where you’ll find me again :)) so we can figure this out together. Thank you for considering the upgrade, I’m sure that you will absolutely love the PRO version and how much it has to offer. The child theme should work like a charm, but like @exper669 pointed out, you will still have to input new information to display it right.

If you are looking to set up a theme only for custom CSS changes, then I recommend you to just install a plugin like Simple Custom CSS and deal with everything that way (in PRO you have dedicated field for this). If you need to do any core files modifications than child theme is a must.

@exper669 That’s great news, I’m happy that you got it working alright!

    Hi again,

Quick question here before I contact the support@machothemes email .. but perhaps my expectation of what should happen when I activate the child theme is wrong.. I currently have live content in my website and use the Pixova-Lite theme – Images and text. I was expecting that when I activate the child theme that all content would be picked up by the new child theme and look the same. Is that not the case? In effect if I activate a child theme do I have to redo all my content?

    Thanks again,

    FS

    Hello FS,

There is information that needs to be re-routed to the child theme so yes, you will have to add some information again, therefore a child theme should be set up before doing any theme work.

    Cheers
