Placeholder text

I am using vfb for my forms, but I am unable to set the placeholder text for input fields. I can add default values but they stay even after user clicks the field. I want the fields to clear when an user clicks on any of the fields. I am not using labels and I intend to use the placeholder as labels. If there any solution to this? Thanks.
