Placeholder text style

I’m trying to change the CSS so the placeholder text does not appear so faint. Following the instructions on the site, I’ve customized the field and do see the changes take hold, but the placeholder text remains light gray. What class has been assigned to them? Or is there an overlay somewhere? Even when I change the text field to be bold and black, it seems like there’s a white overlay. Can you please let me know?
