Not only does Yoast spam every admin page with animated gif ad banners, clicking on the banners sends details about your site to the Yoast server.

  • Hi @alexmansfield,

    Thanks for your comment.

We understand that the Black Friday banner was annoying. Although it was dismissable, it was a bit buggy so last Thursday we released Yoast SEO v12.6.2 which completely removes the banner from the admin panel. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you. You can also find our public apologies on social media through this link.

We appreciate your taking the time to send your feedback.

Yes, I saw the apology, but it only came after the backlash became too great to ignore. Initially Joost defended the decision to spam the WordPress dashboard by saying “We decided to do this…when we saw literally a dozen other plugins do this.” The general attitude was that Yoast will do what they can get away with, not what’s best for their customers.

I manage a number of sites for clients and work hard to manage those sites in a trustworthy manner. When a plugin I install places ads for something they don’t need directly in their admin panel, it violates that trust.
