placing banners and widgets in the left column under the title

My question is very naive: I am using Twenty Seventeen and in my pages, I’ve chosen a 2-column layout with the title on the left and the content on the right. There is a lot of empty space underneath the title which I’d love to use for banner ads and other widgets. Which is the easiest way I can put stuff into this area?
