  • wordpress thinks its installed here:

    if its not, you need to change the 2 urls.

    I was afraid of that. I’ve tried those steps since you kindly responded. and none are working for me. I have done website for 10 years, but all html, little php stuff. would it be easiest if I just went to godaddy and deleted all the files on the server completely and then reinstalled the wordpress stuff? Or is there something in wordpress that still wouldn’t be fixed?

    I tried the Quick fix method at https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Changing_The_Site_URL and still had the same login page, even after numerous refreshes, etc.

    I also tried Relocate method and now my login page just says “Error establishing a database connection”

    would it be easiest if I just went to godaddy and deleted all the files on the server completely and then reinstalled the wordpress stuff?

    is this a brand new install that this happened on? Without any intervention on your part? Its nearly impossible for that to happen unless youve moved files, or changed the url in your wp-admin area.

    My quick answer to your question is yes, assuming you dont lose any content by doing so..

    It’s a brand new install and I got the (new) template up on Friday, but I was told by Godaddy that I could not have it active until I wanted to, so it knocked off my main site for the weekend. Freaking out about that I went back to godaddy and changed the URL that the hosting was on. Since then, I’ve had problems. So to answer, there are no files yet, completely new site. THANK YOU for your fast response.

    youre welcome.

    download your wp-config.php to your local computer (like to a location on your your desktop) and save that file for re-using when you reinstall.

    delete everything wordpress related on your your site.

    upload new wordpress files to where they need to be.

    open that saved wp-config.php in a plain text editor like notepad, and locate this line:

    $table_prefix = 'wp_';

    change the wp to something else, anything you want.

    save the changed wp-config.php and upload it to your newly uploaded wordpress files.

    load wp-admin/install.php in your browser.

    If this proves tough for you, contact me off the forum and Ill give you a hand. there is a contact form on my site (click my name here to get there).
