Plain text pasted from Excel spreadsheet issue

  • I can no longer copy data from an Excel 2011 Mac sheet table and paste it into a page without the data losing the formatting.

    It used to be pasted as a table, keeping most of the format, but now it goes as a text only. I realize Excel data isn’t meant to be put into WordPress pages, but it was a big selling point when we switched over. Is this an issue with 4.4? Or is this functionality no longer available?

    The website editors who copy/paste often are not tech savvy, so having to copy the excel sheet to WordPress is essential.

    Is there another option I’m not seeing? I’ve seen this as an error in 3.9, but I can’t find a resolution from there.

  • Before finding out whether it’s a WordPress issue, have you tried the ‘Paste Special’ option within Excel? This should keep the format in its original state over the regular ‘paste’ option.
