• I currently run an american football site and when visiting a player profile, you can see their stats for the year. However, there is a problem. If the player only has a position on offense, but records stats on defense, those stats do not show on the player profile. Only the stats the player recorded for offense show.

For example, I am a wide receiver (offense) and in this weeks game, I had to play defense and recorded 5 tackles and 1 interception. That would all be defensive stats. I can record the stats, however, they will not be displayed under my player profile when I visit it. Any idea why?

with player lists, it displays stats for all players regardless of their position. If they play ONLY offense, but record a stat for defense, the stat for that player is still recorded and displayed in the player list. But i would like this stat to show up under player profile as well. Any help would be appreciated.

The player profile should list both O and D performance stats under ‘Columns’. You will have to check off the stats for D for that player if you want to show them in the player profile.
I had to split it three ways – Offense, Defense and QB

@gator8 that is what I thought, but for some reason, it is only showing stats for offense and not for defense as well. It is super weird and I am not sure why it is doing this. Here is how my Players section is configured for SportsPress:

But, as you can see on this page, this player only has offensive stats displaying and not defensive stats. This player has defensive stats recorded, and if I give him a defensive position, his profile will then show defensive stats as well:

I tested this theory on a few different players and noticed it is definitely position based. Is there anything easy to tweak in the code or something I am maybe missing that allows SportsPress to ignore the position and display the stats?

Also, could I ask how you were able to split your categories into three perhaps? I would love to have “Special Teams” as a third category.

    Hi @trauma717

Thanks for your reply and I’m sorry for this issue.

Right now stats are tied to a specific team, season, and if offensive/defensive they are tied to the position as well. So you need all of them in order to have your stats (but we are working on improvements on this aspect to allow more flexibility).

At the moment you’d need to add the defensive position to that player as well, and hide it if you don’t want him to show in defensive player lists or if you don’t want to show that in his player profile. Another idea is creating a defensive position just to hold these exceptions. For example have a “defensive” position that is named “offesinve guard”. It’s far from ideal, but would get us a better visual result.

    Thanks!

If you change Columns to ‘Manual’ instead of ‘Automatic’, that should do it. But I think that would mean you would need to go through every player list you have and choose the columns you want to show. You may also have to go through every player and choose columns to display for them.

And, try as I might, I could not find a way to add a third Category (‘QB’). I created QB-specific stats, and, in conjunction with the manual columns and a player position called QB was able to get a pseudo third category.
