Please fix the sitemap

  • The best SEO plugin until the raise of AI content. The sitemap limit of 50.000 URLs maximum for the entire sitemap in a single file doesn’t make it a scalable SEO plugin.

    Nowadays we talk about websites having 500.000 or 5 million of blogposts, a sitemap with a limit of 50.000 URLs just doesn’t cut it anymore.

    It’s not nearly enough and the content is getting produced so fast, the blogposts are already out of the sitemap before they even got a chance to get indexed.

    Everything else is great just for the sitemap you will have to use a different plugin. Luckily there are some plugins that can create multiple sitemaps and limit them all at 1000 URLs max, that’s what gets indexed the fastest in Google and ironically Yoast is actually doing the best job there.

    The best setup you currently can have is either SEO framework + a proper sitemap plugin or just switch back to Yoast.

    SEO framework alone is not enough anymore these days and Yoast yet again becomes the shining star, just because it can create sitemaps that can scale far beyond of what SEO framework can handle.

    Thank you for the review. I believe you missed a feature TSF has.

    You can toggle off the “optimized” sitemap to get a sitemap index file with multiple smaller sitemaps. What you’ll have then is an augmented version of the sitemap shipped with WordPress by default, much akin to Yoast SEO’s sitemap but then faster to generate.

    TSF’s sitemap settings that do not contain the word “optimized” will affect this sitemap. For example, you can set the Query Limit, add the sitemap location to robots.txt, and add ‘Last Modified’ metadata. Pinging of search engines also works, and unindexable links (noindex, redirect, etc.) are stripped from the sitemap.

    Still, not all pages need to be in the sitemap. Once a page is found and indexed, it might as well be removed. Sitemaps help to (re)index new/updated pages quicker, but they won’t affect ranking.

    The SEO Framework is the fastest SEO plugin tested against sites with millions of posts; scalability shouldn’t be an issue.
