• Hi Guys,
I started my very first blog yesterday using Word Press (hooray!) so i am completely new to this. I use the newest version available from this site 1.0.2 and here is my question. I downloaded alex king’s grins plugin but i can’t seem to install it… The readme file says that i have to put it in the plugin folder but this doesn’t exist… And i can’t seem to find a place where i can activate plugins…
    Please help ??

  • @ferrold: 1.0.2 did not have the plug in architecture. You would need one of the releases in https://www.www.ads-software.com/nightly or you could use the CVS version to get the plugins .

I am not sure people completely new to blogging should be recommended to use CVS. 1.2 is due out very soon, why not wait till then?

If you are technical, then go for the nightly, otherwise wait for the stable build release that address this issue (in your case, the next build).

    Hi Will M,
Thank you for the very fast answer…
Since i’m new to this blogging i think it’s better to wait for an official release. Do you know if it will be possible to upgrade from the version i’m using now? And btw. what is CVS…? ??

Upgrading is perfectly possible – and very easy too.
The CVS is the very latest build of each of the components that make up WP.
I use nightlies, so you could try them ?

    Hi again guys,
I downloaded and upgraded the latest version, and it seems to work now.
I didn’t do a backup first though (big NONO apparently), but i couldn’t get the backup hack thingy to work…
But anyway it works now! Thank you.
Btw. do you guys live in here? I hardply pushed send before there were an answer for me ??

i’ve never gotten the backup hack to work either..
does your host have a way of backing up your mysql database? doing that and saving a copy of all your files is really all you want.

    Hi Lilandra,
I don’t know if i’m able to backup my mysql database, but i will try to contact my webhotel and ask them… I’ve made a copy off all the files available on the hotel… Just to have some form of security… But thank you very much everybody… This is a great system. All i need know is some great content ??

hehehe good luck with that…i’m a frivolous blogger myself
so did you createt the mysql database yourself?

    (@ferrold)

No… My new webhotel at b-one.net supplied me with the database… All i had to do wass enter the information into WP and i was up and running… Very easy ??

Have a look round your hosts info. Generally if you have mysql there is a control panel like phpadmin or something. Backups are a common function. It would be surprising if a server geek was needed.

or maybe your host can back it up for you if they made it for you?

I do have access to phpadmin, but i haven’t really looked at the functions yet since i’m brand new to anything besides html and css… But i will have a look at it… Thanks again ??
