    Hi!

I wanted to add a shortcode to my site which included editing the functions.php file. Using the same logic as I did with the style.css file in my child theme, I loaded a duplicate functions.php file into my child theme (so that changes are not overwritten by theme updates). I did this by way of some explorer-like plugin. I hope you aren’t laughing by now – this rendered my WP cpanel and site absolutely useless. Site – https://nativewanderlust.com

How to fix? :'( Thought about using FTP to get rid of the trouble file (in themes\flat-child) but I never set that up and cannot get Filezilla to connect. I am dead in the water, any insight is appreciated.

You’ll need to get FTP running so that you can connect and remove the problem file. How did you upload a duplicate file before without FTP? Perhaps you could use that method instead to remove the file?

Hi and thank you for replying!

How would I get ftp running? Is that through my site host?

I loaded the file with a WordPress plugin and I cannot recall what it was because I can no longer access my cpanel. My site and /wp-admin come up blank. Is ftp a domain-host thing or WordPress thing? Sorry if that is monumentally stupid.

Yes, you’ll need to contact your hosting provider if you’re having trouble connecting via FTP. You might be able to ask them to remove the problem file too, but be sure to still ask about FTP as you might need that later anyway.

You should probably ask them about regaining access to cPanel too. ??
