• My site is in serious trouble, and I’m stumped. The latest problem is that attempts to edit any page generate a critical error message, apparently caused by the Slider Revolution plugin. When I disable this plugin I can edit, but the changes seem to not propagate to the outside world (the page looks fine when I “View” it, but all other computers see a garbage version, even after cache clearing). Related (?) issue: I took the problem page (“pop-ups”) out of the menu structure, but other computers still see the unchanged menu (sometimes: if you navigate to a “good” page the menu updates, but then reverts back).

This site was built (by my predecessor) using the Unyson “framework”, which seems to be another source of my problems. I have (apparently) fixed the “session_start()” problem by editing hooks.php, as described in the github forum, but I think there are other issues.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

It seems like you’re dealing with a complex issue involving both the Slider Revolution plugin and potential conflicts with the Unyson framework on your WordPress site. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

    1. Backup Your Site: Before making any changes, ensure you have a complete backup of your site. This will allow you to restore it if anything goes wrong during the troubleshooting process.
    2. Update Everything: Make sure your WordPress core, theme, and all plugins (including Slider Revolution) are up-to-date. Sometimes, compatibility issues are resolved in the latest versions.
    3. Plugin Conflict Test: Deactivate all plugins except Slider Revolution and check if the issue persists. If not, reactivate each plugin one by one to identify the conflicting plugin.
    4. Theme Switch: Temporarily switch to a default WordPress theme (e.g., Twenty Twenty-One) to check if the problem is related to your current theme.
    5. Slider Revolution Settings: Review the Slider Revolution plugin settings to ensure they are configured correctly. Check for any specific settings related to page editing and rendering.
    6. Cache and CDN: Clear your browser cache and any caching plugins on your site. Additionally, if you are using a Content Delivery Network (CDN), clear its cache.
    7. Unyson Framework: Check if there are any updates available for the Unyson framework. If not, consider reaching out to their support or community forums for assistance.
    8. PHP Version and Error Logs: Ensure your server is running a compatible PHP version with both Slider Revolution and Unyson. Check your server’s error logs for any relevant error messages that might provide clues.
    9. Child Theme: If you are not already using a child theme, consider creating one. This ensures that any modifications you make won’t be lost during theme updates.
    10. Professional Help: If the issue persists and you are unable to identify the root cause, consider seeking help from a professional developer or support forums related to Slider Revolution and Unyson.

Remember, troubleshooting can be complex, and it’s crucial to make changes cautiously, especially on a live site. If possible, perform these steps on a staging environment first.

Thanks for your suggestions, but I have already tried all of them except number 10. I’m pretty sure the problem is with the theme (and Unyson), but I’m hoping to avoid the agony of switching to a new theme, and the expense of #10.

In this case, if you suspect the theme is the reason, you should actually contact their support. As I just saw, the support forum of Unyson, on which your theme is probably based, refers to github: https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/unyson/ – where I read that their support can only be reached by e-mail. In addition, the Unyson plugin does not seem to be compatible with current PHP versions.

From this point of view, I would advise you to choose a different theme. Unfortunately, this will probably also mean rebuilding your project ?? Or you could look for someone here who could support you personally: https://jobs.wordpress.net/
