    Hi,

It works just by activating it, but it doesn’t mean it works perfectly in every case magically.

You need to have a look at the tutorial and also understand the concept behind Retina ??

Ok, I read the tutorial but still doesn’t get it really ?? I have no blue ikons at all so I suppose my pictures are all too small to be able to use the plugin. But also I do not want pictures to be too large since I don’t want heavy loading time. So should I then just remove the plugin altogether?

    Best regards

If your website looks fine on Retina displays, or good enough, it might not be necessary to invest time in working on this, indeed ?? Sometimes the simpler, the better.

    Thank you!

Is there a way I can check how it looks on retina displays?

Most computers are using retina displays nowadays, so basically you can just have a look by yourself, with your own eyes, if the photos on your website look sharp enough then it’s fine ??

Classic, LOL. To much trouble hey Jordy.

You are welcome to propose a better alternative, hstephenwp001. That might be more helpful than a hey-lol.

The best alternative to your plugin is to NOT use your plugin. As you say above:

If your website looks fine on Retina displays, or good enough, it might not be necessary to invest time in working on this, indeed ?? Sometimes the simpler, the better.

    Well said Jordy.

Page speed over slightly better looking images.

Or you could upload an image twice the size or just slightly larger than you need it, and let the theme/container size the image for you, which is essentially what WP does for you. If you optimise/compress the image (larger images can handle more compression) the size of the file should be fine, you don’t need a plugin.

    (@tigroumeow)

Exactly, that’s what I said. The solution you exactly need is the one that is pleasing to your eyes, relatively without the compromise of speed. My plugin is really recommended for websites using full-size images. Otherwise, it might not be as useful.

My plugin is really recommended for websites using full-size images.

Where does it say that on your website? It doesn’t.

You regularly recommend NOT using full size images. However, now you’re saying your plugin is specifically for full size images.

Are you saying you developed a plugin for full size images even though you don’t recommend the use of full size images, LOL, why would you do that? Surely it would be a lot easier to just say don’t use full size images?

    Plugin Author Jordy Meow

    (@tigroumeow)

The plugin is really recommended for websites using full-size images (my comment) doesn’t mean plugin is specifically for full size images (your comment).

I recommend using Responsive Images, brought with WordPress. My plugin adds retina images to the src-set, which makes the choice for the browser larger and therefore more optimized. Then, there could be a few full-size images (logo for example). My plugin adds an src-set for it, and help the user upload/resize the retina for full-size accordingly.

The alternative to what I do is to use a vanilla script called Retina.js (which is also usable through my plugin) which only works for full-size, require you to upload @2x for every single file manually and… loads the image twice (first the normal once, then the retina), so not optimized.

And yes, I still don’t recommend using full-size images, and I don’t recommend using the Retina.js script either.

PS: You have been trying to pick on me for a bit too long and I am starting to find it a bit disturbing. Please think about it.

How am I picking on you, that’s a daft thing to say.

I’m simply saying your plugin is not needed, which is what you implied above. If you look at the other retina plugins available they’re no longer updated, why, because they’re unnecessary.

I mentioned the best alternatives above.
