• I wanted to create a simple site to show a portfolio of my illustration work. So I register my site name with bluehost, then follow the steps in bluehost to install word press. 1st time i’d done it.

Great all seems to go ok, I can access my dashboard, add pages etc, add new blogs. Seems easy enough to play around with and I want to get some cool personal themes etc going at some point.

I can view my pages from within the dashboard and it shows me how they look as a proper web page.

However, whenever I type my site address “www.matesdesign.com” into my browser. It brings up my url but it doesn’t show any of my pages, it just shows the bluehost banner, an add and then a ‘welcome to matesdesign.com’ msg?

What have I done wrong? Do I need to set up a new home page or something?

I’ve read plenty of help topics but think i’m now at the point where i’m confusing myself even more.

I’ve even followed the bluehost tutorial to allow me to use filezille as my ftp program, it all logs in fine etc and says i’m connected, but i’m not sure what to do from there or if I even need it at the mo.

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Any

  • Hi Sean, your blog seems to be coming up OK now but just incase somebody finds this post in the future …

Sometimes when Bluehost installed WP through the automated process or when users upload WordPress files to Bluehost, the original index.html file is left behind. This file is added when the account is created and is the default file, it’ll always override the WordPress files.

The fix? use either your FTP or File Manager to delete index.html from the root folder.

    Thanks for the reply Christopher.

You say my blog is coming up ok now? On my end is hasn’t changed at all, when I type in https://www.matesdesign.com I still get the situation I described in my 1st post ??

From within the file manager in cPanel I can find the folder ‘wp-admin’. If I scroll down there is the following files ‘index.php’ and ‘index-extra.php’.

Shall I delete one of them?

I had a look round Google, seems I was viewing a cached page…. Hard refresh and I can get the default word press blog page.

    I’m and idiot, lol

?? I’m glad you sorted it out.
