Please Help – Update failed now cannot access site

  • I tried to update WP automatically via the admin panel but it was taking forever so I hit cancel. Then I could not access the admin and got a message saying the site was under maintenance and come back later. Then I googled the message and found that I needed to remove a .maintenance file, which i did. Now I get the following error message and cannot access my website AT ALL:

    Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_suspend_cache_addition() in /home/content/87/7547587/html/news/wp-includes/cache.php on line 288

    This is horrible…I am not a coder by any means and have no clue what to do. Someone please help! I’m freaking out…

  • If you canceled the update before it was done, then you probably have some files that are updated, others that are not. So you’ll need to finish the update to get the site back up and running. Since you can’t access the site, you’ll need to do a manual update, via FTP. You can find instructions on how to do that here.

    Thanks. I downloaded the new version then replaced my wp-admin and wp-includes folders via FTP. That let me access the dashboard where I was able to reinstall the latest version. All is well now…
