    I’ve used this plugin for years and it used to be really great, but now it is terrible – the wizard is now mandatory (which is a much slower process than the manual method, and is buggy too) plus it selects the wrong SMTP methods, and it also doesn’t show all the SMTP options, just the ones that it “thinks” are best for me (and the one that I needed to use wasn’t shown, so I couldn’t proceed…) plus it even added a GoDaddy mailserver into the mailserver field (er, I’m not with Godaddy so wtf….). Worse still, it decided that I’m using my hosting company’s mailserver so it doesn’t offer any option to add the email password. So wizard is completely useless and unusable for me.

    To make matters worse, you have now disabled the ability to add all of the data manually – the manual settings page no longer allows me to add the email password, it’s greyed out and is un-editable. It used to take me 2 minutes to set up a site with SMTP using this plugin, yet I’ve just spent 2 hours trying to get this to work to no avail. The end result is that due to a forced email password change due to a server breach, I can no longer update the SMTP plugin to reflect the change, and therefore cannot send or receive any emails.

    Please make the settings page fully editable again, and the wizard optional – not everyone wants to use a wizard.

    Hi @karban

    Hope you are doing good.

    Let me clarify a few things.

    – Wizard is not Mandatory, you can skip or go back to the main menu to do setup manually.

    – I have created a helpful video here, so you can see it working fine however we are testing this issue in dept with other domains and emails.

    – On Wizard Step 4, you need to select the App password as I did in the above video here is the screenshot.

    – Regarding the manual setting, I have created another video here you can check, this might be a plugin conflict or you need to share Post SMTP Diagnostic test report so then I can reproduce this issue on my staging websites and get back to you with a solution.

    Thanks

    Hi M Hasseb,
    Thanks for replying – Yes I have always used the manual method before without any issues, and I have used your plugin for years without any problems, but since a recent plugin update to Post SMTP the ability to set the email address and password was suddenly not possible, it is only possible via the wizard option, however I will do some more troubleshooting to see if like you say it could be a plugin conflict, and will get back to you. Thank you for your assistance and advice.

    Thanks for your reply, if possible create a video of this issue and also share the Diagnostic test report of Post SMTP.

    Hi M Haseeb, no it seems to be either a problem with your plugin since recent update(s) or it is a server related issue, as I am still having problems, the email and password settings are still greyed out and are not editable – despite disabling all plugins except for Post SMTP and also reverting to the default WP theme……

    Do I share the Post SMTP diagnostic test results here or send them to you?

    (PS: Maybe I can edit the password directly in the database in the meantime? as we need a fix for this issue urgently.If so, what encryption method should I use?) Thanks

    Hi @karban

    Hope you are doing good.

    We just went through and set up a WordPress installation with Astra and PHP 7.4 to test POST SMTP. We were able to access all settings tabs on our end without going through the steps of the setup wizard.

    Here is a quick demo; https://www.awesomescreenshot.com/video/11271800?key=1c978a561ece8145425885a0776e166f

    Still, if you have any issues, Can you share a quick recording so we can understand what you are facing on your end? That might help us to get on the same page.

    Looking forward to your response.

    Thanks

    Not to derail this thread but OP is dealing with the exact same issue as me: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/authentication-error-21/

    Hopefully that clarifies.

    Hi M Haseeb, I can’t create a video (don’t have the software installed) however it is quite simple and doesn’t need a video to explain – I cannot edit the settings for the password.
    These problems have only began since a recent plugin update, as I have been using it for some time without issue on multiple sites.
    Furthermore I disabled the Astra theme and reverted to the default theme on the site I shared the diagnostics for, and it made no difference even with all plugins disabled and using the default theme.
    I have also tried using the wizard, and it still won’t save my password, it just reverts to some other password (which has far less digits than any of our passwords). I’ve tried everything I can think of. Nothing I have tried works.
    It should be possible for me to alter the password directly via the database until a solution is found – what encoding should i use? – Thanks

    @karban @gravatard Hi,

    Hope you are doing good.

    While investigating the case, we finally figured out the root cause.

    Back in 2018, the Post SMTP team had published the following article;

    As per our findings, the users who cannot edit their username and password have defined the respective constants following the pattern defined in the article.

    define( ‘POST_SMTP_AUTH_USERNAME’, ‘[email protected]’);
    define( ‘POST_SMTP_AUTH_PASSWORD’, ‘MY_GMAIL_PASS’);

    define( ‘POST_SMTP_API_KEY’, ‘MY_API_KEY’ );

    If you want to change it from the settings section, you would have to remove the above-defined constants from your wp-config.php file, which you can find in the root folder of your WordPress installation.

    Let us know if you still have any questions we can help you with.

    Thanks and regards,
    Post SMTP Support Team.

    Hi Muhammad, just letting you know that after updating the plugin the problem disappeared ??

    (@haseeb0001)

    @karban Thanks for letting us know.

     We were working on increasing support for PHP 8.1 to avoid any depreciation notices and to make it compatible with future PHP releases which we may release in a day or two. Apart from that, we are almost done with our Reports and tracking PRO addon, which we may release soon.

    Another good news for you, that we have restructured the log section (Beta) in a custom table structure with super fast search support even if you have thousands of logs, you don’t need to worry about it.

    ?? Check out the beta here.

    ?? Make sure to try it out on your staging website first and report any bugs  to us!

    ?? Need help configuring? Here’s a helpful guide

    ?? Any questions? Don’t hesitate to ask! Thanks for your support!?

    Here is a glimpse of what we are going to release.

    The new log section in POST SMTP core

    Looking forward to your further feedback.

    Thanks and regards,
