Would particularly like to have someone using Safari look at it. I have checked it in IE, Firefox an Opera.

My objectives were simplicity and to give the journal the look and feel of the other sections of my existing website. I don’t want visitors to be jarred by a totally foreign layout as they go from one section of the site to the other.

I wanted breadcrumbs but neither neither of the two plugins I found were satisfactory. So for the time being I moved some sidebar links into the breadcrumb strip.

I added a dummy comment to the latest post so you can see the format.

I tweaked the login and register page layouts and some of the WordPress functions. Yeah, it will cause more work later but I plan to ugrade only for security fixes, not for additonal functionality. Then I’ll add a hacks file which I didn’t think to do until it was too late.

Later I intend to add plugins for archives, asides and image viewing (though not a gallery, I already have one installed on the site).

    Thanks for your time.

  • Very nice, with taste!

Though I would change the main navigation and the buttons in the journal. They do not conform with the overall style.

What i love most is how the posts look like. the background-color and font is perfect to read.

but also i agree to kassads suggestions and there is also something i had noticed:

“banners.wunderground.com” took ages to load. this linked content has impact to your websites performance. if you dont really need it i suggest to remove the content or copy it to your own (faster) webserver.

sometimes it’s better to host by yourself then to rely on other sites.. once they are down your website has to be updated. i would try to avoid this.

keep it going. good job ??

    Thanks for your comments.

Okay, the weather banner will be removed. It’s really just a frill, not a necessary item.

Re the main navigation menu…I am at a loss for what else to do with it. Anything I have tried in the past just seems to make the pages look cluttered, especially when you go deeper in the site to pages like this: https://www.oldguy.us/easy-riding/ee/

All suggestions of what to do with it will be happily welcomed. I am seriously deficient in the creativity department.

Re the buttons in the breacrumbs areas. What do you think of these alternatives:

    Alternative 1: https://www.oldguy.us/public/layout/capture2.gif
    Alternative 2: https://www.oldguy.us/public/layout/capture3.gif

Here’s the current look for comparison: https://www.oldguy.us/wp/

Nice use of colour, I’m in agreement that the top nav is too busy and detracts form the rest of the design. Maybe move some of the navigation choices down to the sidebar?

Okay, I reset everything to the way I originally had it with the links moved back to the “stuff” menu in the sidebar.

If you think this looks better then I’ve been taught a lesson about not screwing around with things that ain’t broke. ??

For comparison purposes here are some screen captures of various things I tried:

Again, many thanks for your time and comments.

Well, on my part, I would vote for capture4.

But I would omit any 3D effect because your design is “plain” if I am right using this term.

I would also omit the white dividing lines in the second row. It looks like character based graphic.
    Nice hover effect, instead.

One more thing: That gray is not bad but some other shade of brown or yellowish brown perhaps would be a better match.

Your design does really worth some extra work ??
