• I just installed WordPress on a new domain. The new theme was active, Twenty Twenty-Two. I checked the Google pagespeed. It’s terrible, 76. When I switch to an old theme, Twenty Twenty-One, the pagespeed is a hundred, both mobile and on a desktop.
Why is Twenty Twenty-Two out there? Who made this theme? Why are you using a theme that has a Google pagespeed of 76?

Why is the Gutenburg editor being stuffed down our throats, even in your new theme, while it is clear that most WordPress users find it very annoying? Would it not be much better to ask people, during installation, if they wish to use Gutenberg?

No one is forcing you to use twentytwentytwo — it’s a step on the way to full site editing themes. See https://make.www.ads-software.com/core/2021/10/06/introducing-twenty-twenty-two/. I’m using a child of twentytwentyone and twentyseventeen on my sites.

With respect to the block editor, it too is a step on a way to a WordPress that the developers see as more “modern” and responsive to current trends. It’s here to stay, but there is a “classic block” you can use to have the old editing experience in the new framework.

I wonder why didn’t WordPress ran a test? You could have let users choose between a Gutenberg or Non-Gutenberg version of WordPress. And, then it would have been clear that most WordPress users are not a fan of Gutenberg. Dutch webmaster forums are stuffed with people complaining about Gutenberg, ever since it came out. Plugin makers don’t seem to keep up, some of the most popular plugins do not work well with Gutenberg. The classic editor plugin has 5 stars, the Gutenberg editor has 2 stars. I have the idea that some important people at the WordPress Foundation liked the WIX sitebuilder and made a bad copy of it. And, they are not looking at the community at all. In my opinion, Gutenberg is not the future of WordPress, it is the end of WordPress.

Disable Gutenberg, is one of the first plugins I install, Disables Gutenberg Block Editor and restores the Classic Editor and original Edit Post screen. Provides options to enable on specific post types, user roles, and more.
