Since WordPress now supports more and more WebP as an image format and Google PageSpeed Insights favors this image format and it also saves a lot of space, I wanted to use it in the first articles on my website. Unfortunately, I had to find out that the preview image is no longer displayed when the article is linked in social media.

In the forum search I saw that in the past you didn’t support this format because WordPress didn’t support it well either. This is now different with WordPress and is becoming an integral part. It will also contribute to improving performance, since the image and page loading times can be significantly reduced.

It would therefore be really desirable if YOAST would now support WebP, otherwise YOAST would not really be 100% compatible with the current WordPress.

    Hi @detoris

We appreciate your feedback on this regarding adding support for the WebP image format, as it is being an integral part of WordPress.

We’ve added this feedback to our internal issue and I’ll try and let our developers know if this can be evaluated for further inclusion down the line in a future plugin update.

    Thanks!
