According to a new trademark policy of JetPack, I promised to George Stephanis from automattic.com that this plugin will be changed or deprecated.

I plan to develop new plugin to replace the SlimJetPack, but didn’t have spare time yet.

Sorry for the inconvenience. I’ll inform all of you when the new plugin is ready.

The problem is about the name of the plugin or about the purpose of it?

What do you mean by deprecated? I have several sites using this plugin and I need to know if it will definitely be continued to be maintained. Please let us know.

If you say you are developing a completely new plugin, will it still have the same functionality as before and will it be tested to make sure it will be compatible with the new version of WordPress to be released soon?

    Thanks.

Another issue that I wanted to reach out on is that we’re starting to get a new policy in place regarding the Jetpack trademark. We’re fine with legacy plugins keeping Jetpack in the slug, but if you’d like to keep it in the title of your plugin, we ask that (1) your plugin extends Jetpack’s functionality, rather than conflicting or replacing Jetpack itself (as I mentioned above), and (2) that you use “Jetpack” descriptively in the plugin name and/or slug, like “Sprockets for Jetpack” as opposed to “Jetpack Sprockets”. Or, more specifically, “Diet Pill for Jetpack” — or the like. Something that makes it clear that it’s a plugin ‘for’ Jetpack — not a type of Jetpack

I guess both? IMHO, it’s better to avoid this fuss and start a new plugin to trim Jetpack ??

I’ll provide maintenance update at https://github.com/HowardMei/slimjp/releases

You may download and install it manually. I’ll update it for maintenance purpose according to downloading stats, even after
    the release of new plugin.

You can continue it in GitHub :D.
What exactly is the function of the new plugin?

    hi
please update plugin slimjetpack with modules :

    modules/comments
    modules/gplus-authorship
    modules/holiday-snow
    modules/likes
    modules/photon
    modules/post-by-email
    modules/publicize
    modules/related-posts
    modules/subscriptions

    wating update…

That way it will not be very “slim”!
    Why don’t you use Jetpack?

How about calling the new plugin something like:

    “Liberation for Jetpack”
    “Data Liberation for Jetpack”
    “Unlinking for Jetpack”
    “No Strings Attached for Jetpack”

These are mostly tongue in cheek, of course. I am glad that you are working on Slim Jetpack and its successor. Please let us know about the new plugin when it’s available. Thanks!

These names will be unacceptable because:

    (1) your plugin extends Jetpack’s functionality, rather than conflicting or replacing Jetpack itself

    .
I think renaming the plugin and not using Jetpack in it’s name is a better solution.

I just wanted to say I find this plugin fantastic. Please continue your fine work.

I’ve been working for two, three days on a new fork:
    [Tessa Powerpack]

You may test it. Eventually I will publish this in the plugin directory on www.ads-software.com. This depends on the feedback (and the workload). I will only offer support for “licensed” users at the moment. The plugin itself is free and everybody is invited to copy and distribute and to modify and rename the plugin, that’s the freedom GPL2 offers: ??

Maybe that’s an acceptable starting point for your new plugin, WingerSpeed…
