This plugin works great but the instructions need an update.

When you complete all of the steps and click the Grant Permissions button you will get a 403 Error from Google Authenticating you.

To avoid this, the following needs to be added to the instructions BEFORE that final screen with this Grant Permissions button.

When you create this API for your Post SMTP Plugin it will automatically be in TESTING status.

Go to your project’s OAuth consent screen page.

Google Cloud > Project > OAuth consent screen > Publishing Status

Click the PUBLISH APP button

A popup will appear asking if you want to “Push to production?”

Click Confirm

The page will change to Verification Status – Verification not required.

Now, when the user clicks the Grant permission with Google button they will get an authorization screen to select their Google account:

After that (in my case) the user gets a warning screen from Google that the app has not been verified:

Click Advanced (at the lower let), and the link appears:

Next, Google will display the access screen:

Finally, you’re site will be connected to a published app.

Also, in my case, when I got to this part of the instructions:

Navigate to the?OAuth Consent screen?and select User, type “Internal,” and Click?Create

It indicates Internal should be selected but I am never able to select Internal. I always must select only External. This may, or may not be related to the above.

It seems that, unless you’re using a Google Workspace account, you will not be able to select “Internal” as a user type. If you’re using a regular Gmail account it stays grayed out.

You might want to change your documentation to include that fact.
