    I’m importing (into 2.8.4) an export from 2.7.1 and I get the error in the title — not a valid WXR.

    The file doesn’t look corrupted, I don’t see anything unusual about it. The file is 6.5MB.

    The database permissions are fine because the blog has “Hello World!” etc.

    I have no idea what the problem is. Any suggestions? I’m digging in Google but not finding much.

    I don’t think it’s a file size problem because I chopped the file down to 160 lines (removed most of the “items”) and I still get the same error, if you can call that an error.

    OK, it’s not a valid WXR, but I have no idea what is invalid about it.

    Tried importing to 2.7.1 and that isn’t working either. I have no idea what the problem is, right now I’m looking for some other way to convert this WXR to anything, something I can work with.

    Simple solution:

    Open the file in gedit and save it without any change. Because the file was sent to me by email, I’m thinking maybe it wasn’t UTF-8?
