• I am using 2.5.1. I uploaded a couple of plug-ins to my site. They show up in the plug-in file under wp-content, along with my other plug-in’s. However, when I go to activate them in WordPress, they do not show up (the others I use are there).

What is going on and how can I get them to show up to activate?

    Thanks.

  • “couple of plugins” is not an exact technical description of a plugin.
Where do they show up? You mean seeing them via ftp?

Many plugins come in a “double folder: having a ‘wrap’ around the plugin itself + readme + auxiliary files… and you need to upload only the internal plugin folder. That’s one possibility.

I downloaded 2 plugins to my computer, and extracted the files in a folder. I uploaded all the files in that folderto wp-content/plugins.

I’ll fill in the blanks, moshu.

You uploaded a recent posts plugin, some post-plugin-library thing, and the wordpress automatic upgrade plugin.

You nested the directories. Look at how askimet is installed — its inside ONE directory. Then look at how those three are uploaded.

    wp-content/plugins/plugin-dir/ << — correct

    wp-content/plugins/plugin-dir/plugin-dir/ <<– not correct.

That is, btw, what Moshu was suggesting you look at.

If you need more clarification, search for ‘nested plugins’ without the quotes, that will probably bring up something.

After I replied to Moshu about what I had done, I went back and looked and did compare it to my other plug-ins. What you and he said was the case, and I have corrected it.
BTW, how do you know what plugin’s I have and downloaded. I’m just curious as I’m new to this and am learning, as in this example, how to do things other than the surface workings that show up in my blog.
I’ve had a ton of blog problems that I’ve been trying to fix this past week (with no background knowledge on my part) due to someone hacking into my blog. Needless to say, I’m learning a lot and should be a “little” more tech savvy.

BTW, how do you know what plugin’s I have and downloaded.

we know everything about you, you dirty little sewing lady….with a cat…
