• I installed wordpress today, and for the first time ever, I am having issues.

The install works fine until I log in to the site for the first time.

    Logging in is OK.

I decided to remove a plu gin, and add a couple.

But, oddly enough, when wanting to do this, it asks me for the hosting domain. I have never been asked this, but maybe this is new to wordpress? I entered the host, usernamd an dpassword.

I then, a short while later, an error saying that the deletion and installation failed.

I decided to move forward manually.

I logged in via ftp. I can log in.

But upon uploading the plug-in, it failed.

Here is the error message for one of the files that was to be uploaded:

    Command: CWD /web/order/wp-content/plugins/better-wp-security/core/modules/file-change/js/filetree/images
Response: 550 Can’t change directory to /web/order/wp-content/plugins/better-wp-security/core/modules/file-change/js/filetree/images: No such file or directory
    Command: SIZE /web/order/wp-content/plugins/better-wp-security/core/modules/file-change/js/filetree/images/ppt.png
Response: 550 Can’t check for file existence
    Command: PASV
Response: 227 Entering Passive Mode (192,168,0,70,40,209)
    Command: STOR /web/order/wp-content/plugins/better-wp-security/core/modules/file-change/js/filetree/images/ppt.png
Response: 553 Can’t open that file: No such file or directory
    Error: Critical file transfer error

Why might I not be able to modify anything?Permission issues?

    Thanks for any ideas.

    Joseph

I forgot to add a detail.

I created the new WP site n the folder of an existing WP site.

I can easily transfer files to and from the initial WP site. But, once i enter folder containing the new site, ftp transfer will not work.

    I use FileZilla
    Ubuntu 16.04

    Thanks

Well, I found an answer to my own problem.

In this install, I used the wget command to download the files to my server.

Tonight, I downloaded word pres to my desk top, and then uploaded it.

    It worked fine!

While I made it work, I am not sure how and what the firt nstall did wrong.

Why did using the wget command mess things up?

    Thanks for some help.

    Joseph
