• Hi I’ve been trying to install the WP im,porter plug but get error messages…

    Could not create directory. /var/www/vhosts/communika.co.uk/httpdocs/wordpressnew/wp-content/upgrade/wordpress-importer.tmp

I’ve tried installing another importer plug-in and got the same message

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

  • “Could not create directory” might be a permissions problem or some other kind of security issue at the destination folder if the folder even exists or maybe even if it already does exist and cannot be over-written.

thanks. i managed to do this on another domain I’m hosting with no problem so i don’t understand why I’m having problems. can you give any advice on how to check the permissions are set ok?

via FTP access at your server. If you do not already have FTP access, install FileZilla on your local computer and ask your host to help you establish an SFTP connection (more secure than FTP) so you will be able to look at and/or work with the files at your site just like you already work with files on your local computer. However, I know nothing about how the WP plugin installer works or exactly what might be going on when you try to use it for the importer plugin. I just know “Could not create directory” means something somewhere is stopping the installer, and that problem *might* be discoverable via FTP.
