• Hey Sparkpost team,

We rely on Sparkpost for a ton of our WordPress sites. We’re really surprised and disappointed that this plugin seems to have been abandoned. It’s working fine so far under latest WP 5.5, but I’m starting to worry.

I’d hope that your team can review the current codebase and test for latest WP compatibility and post an update, at a minimum? Frankly I don’t feel like there are any additional features we’d need out of the plugin, but as a leading vendor of transactional and SMTP services I’m surprised you’re neglecting such a major part of the market.

    it’s not a good look.

  • I completely agree. We are actually having issues sending today after the update and no way to find support.

You’re right; we’re now getting this error on WP 5.5:

    Response body: { "errors": [ { "message": "invalid data format\/type", "description": "field 'content.headers' is of type 'json_array', but needs to be of type 'json_object'", "code": "1300" } ] }

FYI I submitted a ticket to Sparkpost and they replied:

Thanks for writing in! I’m afraid our WordPress application is no longer supported

So, I guess we’re on our own. We have ~100 sites that run this plugin so I think we’ll need to fork it and manage it ourselves. It looks like in this thread:

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/error-sending-test-e-mail/

The submitter found that if you if you use SMTP instead of API it worked; I’m going to try that now, however I think the best thing here is to fork this.

If you’re interested I can share that patched version once we do.

    Hi,

I am really surprised to hear that they abandoned the plugin.

We also use it on + 100 websites.

@nocabt We are interested in a fork/patched version. Did you already found a fix?

I’ll also send an email to Sparkpost support that we are very unhappy with this situation.

    Response from Support:
We are aware of this issue and based on the limited internal discussion about this yesterday that I’ve seen, I expect this will have to be urgently prioritised and a fix / update created and published as soon as possible.
Given that the plugin is not overly complex hopefully this will be done soon.

The work around for now is to use the SMTP settings instead of the plugin to use SparkPost with WordPress.
The plug-in is just an interface to send mail. You can just as easily use the SMTP interface and standard SMTP settings in WordPress.

I confirm it is OK using SMTP.

Indeed everything is fine with SMTP. The issue relates to the HTTP API and changes in a recent WP update.

We are trying to find a resolution and in communication with the team at SparkPost. If you can use SMTP in the interim I would do so.

Also with +100 website in need of a fix for this plugin problem. Not easy to figure out which is using http api…

We are actively working on a fix for this particular issue. Thank you for your patience.

A newer version is in the WP repository with the fix
