[Plugin: Add Link to Facebook] release frequency

People like to see newly requested features soon, but you don’t have to update each time. I also think it is better than no updates at all, which happens too often with other plugins. The release frequency will probably going down anyway, because I think the plugin is finished now.

I have to agree with the above commenter. I run 10-12 different sites. Upgrading 10 sites daily is a PITA. Can you package a few of these changes together instead of upping the version number for each minor change? I love the plugin, but man, these updates are intense. I think there have been 20 different version in the last two weeks alone.

Really? Wow. I have to say that I disagree. I can’t tell you the number of times I have waited a LONG time for a bugfix release for other programs/scripts/etc. I’d think more people would be grateful. Guess I thought wrong.

just because it says there is an update available doesn’t mean you have to push the button

I, for one, greatly appreciate the updates. It shows how much you care about providing support and making your product better. I say, keep up the good work!

I guess it will be difficult to make everybody happy.

There is an advantage to a larger number of smaller updates: if something breaks, you can go back one version without loosing much. The other advantage was already mentioned: requested features will be available faster.

A disadvantage is that some people are bothered by the updates.

Are there any other thoughts on this subject?

How about if there is a bugfix, release the update immediately, if it’s only new or improved features, maybe release the update every couple weeks? Seems to me there should be a happy medium somewhere ??

Actually, this is what I planned to do. Important bugfix releases right away and feature releases once a week (if any of course).

Sounds good to me. Just don’t let people’s apparent, intended or not, ungratefulness keep you from plugging away (pun fully intended) ??

Not ungrateful. I appreciate the heck out of this plugin. But I was one of those overwhelmed by every minor translation update release. Things like that should be packaged into one larger release. Bug fixes, if critical, should be rolled out, after testing, immediately. I would certainly agree to that philosophy. Keep up the solid work!

For the people that don’t want to wait until next Friday: there is a development version available with an interesting new feature: Facebook registration and login. This allows registration and login to your WordPress site from a Facebook account. After registration login to your WordPress site is just one click if you were logged into Facebook. Seeing as how I started this thread a long time ago, I will point out a few things, now nine months later.

A) I am not ungrateful for the plugin, nor for the updates that keep it current. I am quite thankful, but I was not considerate enough to state that at the beginning, and for that I apologize. This is an excellent plugin and I am VERY grateful. Thank you!

B) I realize I “do not have to update”, just because there is an update. The flip side of this is that the red alert that says there are updates shows up on a frequent basis, but I don’t know what plugin has been updated. With one click updating, it’s just as much work to click and see what updates there are as it is to run the update. In other words, it’s not the one or two clicks, it’s the repetitive checking to see what exactly got changed, and whether it is important or not.

C) I find it amusing that the author replied with, “The release frequency will probably going down anyway, because I think the plugin is finished now.” (hee hee)

D) I can’t for the life of me figure out what my settings are supposed to be to get comments to sync back and forth between FB and WP. But I’ll search for those answers in other support threads.
