[Plugin: Advanced Excerpt] Small bug and a suggestion

    Thanks for a great plugin. I noticed a small bug with version 4.1.1 and I have a suggestion.

    BUG:
    If the words displayed actually end up being the contents of the entire post, the user-configured ending characters (e.g., “…”) are still displayed.

    SUGGESTION/FEATURE REQUEST:
    Add an option to use the default “Read More” call that is called by a theme in addition to displaying the user-configured ending characters. I’m assuming excerpt_more() can be read.

  • I have the same issue, with the excerpt characters being displayed even if the post is so short that it shouldn’t be excerpted at all.

    Also, if a post contains text and then a table or photos, the excerpt text (the ellipsis and/or the “read more” text) will show up after the initial text but before the table or photos (again, even if they’re not being excerpted).

    Both of these behaviors just started with the 4.1.1 upgrade.

    Better integration with WordPress functions is not high on the todo-list at the moment, but I will keep your suggestion in mind.

    Placement of read-more text will be improved in the next update.

    Thanks for addressing the placement of the read-more text. ?? Will there also be a resolution to the bug that BlindWolf8 mentioned (which affects me too) where the ellipsis is shown even if a post is so short that it’s under the word-count and doesn’t require an excerpt?

    This issue is affecting me as well (if I’m understanding it correctly). If the number of words/characters in the post is LESS than the number you specify in the plugin settings, you still get the ellipsis AND a read more link (provided you have the read more link option turned on).

    In contrast, WP’s default excerpt function doesn’t add […] if the_excerpt actually returns the whole post.

    Would love to have a workaround, even if it meant digging in the code a bit.
