• For a while now, my reader’s comments have occasionally landed in the spam box for no apparent reason. I was able to narrow it down, however: they get tagged as spam whenever the words “socialist” or “socialism” appear in the text (neither “social” nor “socialized” trigger it). I double-checked my settings, and neither word is in the comment moderation or blacklist, and I am only using Akismet (2.5.1) otherwise, and see no way to enter blacklisted words in any other way.

Is Akismet tagging these words as forbidden, or is something else going on? It kinds of makes it difficult to discuss the news these days without these words popping up from time to time, frustrating people commenting on my site. Thanks!

The first step is the mark any mistakes as ‘Not Spam’, this sends data back to Akismet.com to learn from the mistake.

Second, Akismet isn’t a word blacklist, so that may be one common item among the comments you see as incorrectly marked as spam, it isn’t one that Akismet uses.

If you continue to see false positives even after using the ‘Not Spam’ button repeatedly please contact us and let us know – akismet.com/contact/
