I posted this on the seednetwork site as instructed but no one seems to bother replying there, so here’s my message again:

We’re starting up a new non-profit listings site for Brixton, south London and have decided to go with the All-in-One Event Calendar Plugin.

We’re working around some issues to get it to do what we want, but one thing we’re very disappointed with is the slowness of the events diary.

Clicking to ‘next page’ in the agenda view can take upwards of ten seconds, and when I try to access more info on individual events on my mobile (Samsung S2/Dolphin browser) nothing happens at all.
    The calendar is here: https://www.brixtonbuzz.com/calendar-3/

We have quite a few events posted but if we can’t get the plug in to work in a useful manner, we will reluctantly have to uninstall it (which would be a shame because it looks great).

FYI: I run several other high traffic WordPress installations on the same server with no issues.

    Any help appreciated!

Sorry, I’ve been struggling to reply all comments the last few days.
On your website, do you have events that repeat forever?
The best thing, when you have many events and your server is struggling is to keep the events number as low as possible. For example, adding events only for this and the next months and then erasing past events. Keeping repeating events to end on date rather than repeating forever.

    Hi
We’ve only got events for December listed.
    Cheers

There are a couple optimization tasks that we will perform on ai1ec. I hope that the performance will be significantly faster after that. You can see the tasks here
Out of curiosity, what is your server configuration?

It’s doing something even odder now – last night it would only show the listings for Nov 30 and Dec 2nd in the agenda view – missing out Dec 1st completely.

I’ve kept a screen grab if you need it.

    Hi,

There appears to be an issue with event dates:
    https://www.brixtonbuzz.com/ai1ec_event/rebel-disko/?instance_id=33209

The events are starting on the 1st and ending on the 30th

Were you importing from an ICS, if so what does the data look like in it?

Surely the software shouldn’t allow that to happen?

    The events are hand entered.

Yes, I have created a bug ticket for that:

The guy who has been entering the dates says that several are switchign to something else. One went back to 1970 while others seem to shift their dates around. It’s very strange.

The agenda calendar remains totally unusable in the mobile view: you can see the events listed, but it’s impossible to get any more detail.

Just to say that we’re going to have to try something else now. It’s just too slow and on a mobile nothing happens when you click on an event in agenda view.

It’s a shame because I like the way the plug in looks, but if users can’t actually get to see the listings, there’s not much point in us persevering.

We are looking to improve the speed of agenda view – if it isn’t in the next release, it will likely be in the one following that. We will be aiming to have a 2 week release schedule in the new year
