Generally in this case the destination would not be changed, but there are a couple of exceptions where locals have suggested that they use a nearby country’s store: Ireland goes to UK, Austria and Switzerland go to Germany, and Portugal goes to Spain.

If there is something I dislike “on the net” is to assume that swiss people do speak german ??

I’m from the french speaking part of Switzerland, and geographically, we are almost 40%, and if I visit amazon, it will be at amazon.fr !

@petewilliams, you plugin seems great, and I’m going to try it, what I say above is just to let you know about it, that a big part of a country might just “leave” while landing on the wrong language site, that can be the case in Belgium as well…

Can you tell me more about the nearby option? Can these exceptions be set by the admin? I’d like to use it on an international site that has a lot of swedish users. Most swedes would shop from amazon.co.uk. That probably goes for all Scandinavian countries.

Idea for a feature: if the country isn’t covered by a Amazon store, open a dialogbox where the user can pick the preferred amazon site. Save the result in a cookie. This would work on Switzerland too without insulting anyone. Right now I think there are too many countries that falls in between.

At the moment there’s no ability to set the exceptions manually, this may be something I’ll add in a future version. Currently the only exceptions are: Ireland goes to UK, Austria and Switzerland go to Germany, and Portugal goes to Spain.
