• On www.ads-software.com, when someone leaves a review for a theme or plugin the review shouldn’t count into the total (ex. 4.5 / 5 stars) forever. It should only count for a period of time like 6 months or a year. Or it should be tied to the version number.

A lot of reviews are for a specific bug that gets fixed. It is really annoying to see a 1 star review for a bug that got fixed 20 commits ago. Just like on play.google.com, reviews are tied the version number.

If there is a better place to post this feedback, mods please let me know.

    Thanks,
    Scott

This is the right place for your feedback. ??

Reviews are user feedback, nothing more and nothing less. Anyone using the reviews as (an example) a sales lead is making a tragic mistake. Review matter but only as a weather vane for user experience.

Tying reviews to version numbers isn’t a bad idea but I worry that people will use the version numbers to game the system and not provide an accurate view of the user experience for that plugin or theme.

    Hi Jan,

    Thank you for the reply!

I think you could prevent gaming the system by showing the star review for both all time as well as the last 10 commits.

    Thanks,
    Scott

This is how it works; reviews can be edited up to 12 months from when they were created. If someone is still using a plugin that contained a bug, which they reviewed negatively, that is later fixed, they can update their review. It’s not an unfair review, the review is only there to indicate someone’s experience with the plugin. If their experience was negative then that is still relevant even if the bug they experienced has been resolved.

Reviews can be edited by the original author forever. They don’t close. Or, they should not. The new forums may or may not have this implemented correctly.

    Except from the 2 facts:

    1) Most users have no idea that the ratings can be changed, in fact, I had to google this to find out how/if it can be done. It is that much clear.

    2) When you kindly ask a user to review their rating, user never comes back.

Although, since the forum changed, I never receive email notifications to new issues/topics, that could count, too.
