Hi everyone, I am a little stuck with our website at the moment. I have recently swapped hosting companies and uploaded my website to the new hosting company via ftp. All was working well before the transfer now I cannot update plugins it just says update failed.

Also cannot update wordpress it comes with the following:-

    Downloading update from https://downloads.www.ads-software.com/release/wordpress-4.4.2-no-content.zip…

Download failed.: Destination directory for file streaming does not exist or is not writable.

    Installation Failed

I have tried changing permissions to 777 on the plugins folder. Also tried deactivating all plugins still nothing. Contacted hosting company and they seem to think its a wordpress problem even though I have not changed anything since the transfer. Any help appreciated.

You mentioned you changed the permissions on the “plugins” folder, but when you’re updating either WordPress or any plugin, the files are temporarily stored in the directory wp-content/upgrade/ after that, they are moved to the plugins folder . Have you tried changing this folder’s permission to 750?
