• I’ve got a quite a few problems with my blog.

    – plugin auto-updates don’t work (gets stuck at unpacking)
    – I get no incoming links, trackbacks etc.
    – dashboard can’t show RSS feeds (gets stuck while loading)

My blog is in a sub-directory of another domain.
It can be accessed via a top-level-domain whose A-Record has been changed to the nameserver of the other domain.
I better describe it with an example:

    1. https://www.domain.com/coolblog <- that’s where the blog actually resides
    2. https://www.coolblog.com <- that’s how you reach the blog
    3. A-Record of https://www.coolblog.com refers to the nameserver of https://www.domain.com
    4. The Confixx of https://www.domain.com contains an entry for https://www.coolblog.com
    5. This entry redirects to https://www.domain.com/coolblog

This is working great (don’t need extra webspace), besides the above mentioned problems.

They all seem to be related to connections with other websites, so does anyone have a clue?

  • Have you spoken to your hosting provider? I ask because I spent over 4 hours troubleshooting a similar external connections problem a few weeks ago on a non-WP site. Eventually raised a ticket with support to ask if any server upgrades has been carried out recently. It turned out that there’s been an upgrade the day before and the “engineers” had managed to reconfigure the firewall to block all calls to external sites! At least they had to grace to apologise but how does a hosting provider manage to effectively lockdown and completely isolate a web server, fer pete’s sake?

So don’t rule out a clanger at your provider’s end…

    You were completely right esmi.
Even without asking the provider they changed something 4 days ago and all issues are gone now. ??
