We are using WordPress 3.1 on a Windows platform. When I try to run BackupWordPress manually it shows “Creating zip archive” at the top of the screen but never completes.

Files are created in the “C:\inetpub\wwwroot\wp-content\backups” directory which include:

    .backup_running
    .htaccess
    database_xx_wordpress.sql
    Blog.backup.2011-11-22-11-14-42.zip

But I don’t see any other error message or additional logs. Any idea where to look for additional problem messages?

1.6.2 no longer fails the backup for PHP errors.

    It should resolve your issues.

By mistake I added comments to another thread about half an hour ago, so now I will post them here:

    ////////////

    Strange thing happened…

I updated to 1.6.2, hit the button to start a backup, it changed to Starting Backup, and then died. That happened twice, with no backups done and no temporary files being created (checked with FileZilla).

Yet the third time around it worked, sort of ??

It made the backup, but did not delete the .backup_running file and I am still waiting for the email. The back weights 16.7mb and I waited for about 15 minutes, so maybe it will still come in a while.

    ////////////

Still waiting for the email, so I think it just didn’t go out at all.

Besides, I tried updating the other website mentioned before and after creating the backup (first try), when it tried to send it, WordPress failed:

Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 61341696) (tried to allocate 20487392 bytes) in /home/ideariu/public_html/es/wp-includes/class-phpmailer.php on line 1495

Just in case it’s useful, the URL at the moment of the crash was /wp-admin/tools.php?page=backupwordpress&action=hmbkp_backup_now.

    The backup weighted 15mb.

    Cheers.

If the email causes a fatal error on send then that will stop the backup process from finishing properly.

If you turn off the email backup option, do your backups work.

Actually, the backups were created successfully in both cases (after two ‘warming up’ tries in the first case).

It’s just that the email is not being sent and it temporarily crashed WP in one case.

Yea, the files are made, just the .backup_running doesn’t get deleted.

Emails and the annoying error messages should be fixed in 1.6.4.

    Hello Guys,
I am using WordPress 3.2.1 and windows server 2008.
Installed BackUpWordPress 1.6.8 plugin. I tried to take the backup manually and database backup was successful. But when I tried to take files backup it keeps on spinning. After 2-3hours I cancelled , the zip file will be created and on extract I can view all the files and folders too. My problem is am not warned with any alert message saying backup is completed, as I got alert message when tried to take database backup.

Please help me, any help is much appreciated.

    Hi
I’ve used backupwordpress on several sites without a problem but now I too have the problem of it getting stuck in ‘creating zip archive’ mode. On this site it is also not showing the size of the site. It just says ‘calculating size…’ (and it’s not a particularly big site by any means.

I tried deactivating and reactivating the plugin. I’ve tried it on Firefox and Safari but no difference.

When I look at the wp-content folder there is a sql file of probably about the right size, a .htaccess and .backup_running.

    The plugin is version 1.6.8

I have the same problem with latest plugin and wordpress. I’m on Godaddy hosting. Generally no plugin can handle full backup asthe same happens for me with backWPup plugin. I had hopes that this one wil solve my problems but as I see it must be something with godaddy.

    Edit:

When I hit the cancel button I got a response that 1 backup as compleeted and tat I can download it.

You might all be interested in trying BackUpWordPress 2.0, it’s in beta at the moment, see https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/backupwordpress-v2-beta-testers-wanted?replies=1 for more details.

BackUpWordPress 2.0.1 has now been released which should fix a lot of these issues.

    Hi Tom,

I have the same problem. I am running the last version of your plugin. When I try a manual backup, it is created (I have downloaded by FTP) but the page is showing “Creating zip”. The complete backup is quite big (450 Mb) but it is done right.

I also have the latest version of the plugin (2.0.6) and my backup also gets stuck on “Creating Zip”. The backup-file on my ftp always stops at 134mb but the site in total is around 400mb.
