[Plugin: Better WP Security] I think tracking file changes crashed my site

My site recently crashed — meaning it was completely down and invisible from the web.

It turns out that a plugin was the culprit, and I’ve narrowed it down to WP Better Security. The only change I made in it’s configuration recently was to enable ‘notify me if a file changes’. I have to assume that change caused it to run in an endless loop and crash my site.

Does anyone know how I can re-activate it, but WITHOUT that option turned on?
