[Plugin: Better WP Security] "You don't have permission to access / on this server."

I am running MAMP (apache). I tried applying Better WP Security’s suggestions but lost access to my site when I made an attempt to change the name of my content folder. Since its on my local computer I decided to reinstall a fresh copy of my current site and try different settings, only now I can’t see my file directory via the browser so I am having trouble installing the backup. I get the error:

“403 Forbidden – You don’t have permission to access / on this server.”

I’m pretty sure the option to hide directories is causing this but I need help on how to fix it. Any suggestions… please?
