Hi, thanks so much for finally filling the need for a WYSIWYG text widget; this is a new must-have plugin for me on every site.

Recently, I tried to embed a YouTube video into the widget using both normal WP methods (just the URL on its own line, and then the [embed]URL[/embed] method), and neither worked. With just the URL on it’s own line, it just displayed the URL (unlinked). If I used the [embed] tag, it displayed nothing at all where the embed or link should have been.

I then tried using the same [embed] code in a regular WP page on the same site, and it worked fine. So it seems that it’s the widget that is the issue. Any thoughts?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello,
thanks for your appreciation. I just released a new version (0.9.5) which supports the embedding of youtube (and other services) urls. Unfortunately the way WordPress handles this stuff is a bit odd, as they are not standard shortcodes. For this reason there are slight differences when using them in (TinyMCE) widgets, compared to the way they work in posts and pages. For best results in widgets, I would recommended to put the URL in an [embed] shortcode. Example: [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXXXXXXXXXX[/embed] Alternatively, if you don’t want to use [embed] shortcode, ensure that your URL is not surrounded by a <p> tag, which is added automatically by the WYSIWYG editor (switch to HTML mode to remove <p> tags).

I too am having the same problem as freelance08. When using the [embed] shortcode or alternatively removing the <p> tag YouTube url’s do not work. I have the same errors as freelance08 in that when using [embed] the widget is blank and when removing the <p> tag you just see the URL.

Using [embed] works excellent in the visual mode with the latest Black Studio TinyMCE widget!
