[Plugin: BuddyPress Group Livechat] Doesn't chat

I read the wp doc on hooks… the action for the chat is not being setup properly?? Just need to find where…

Attempting to fix the group wiki first, tinyMCE is not included and causing ‘not defined’ error in the browser.

Checking in to see how Round 2 is going. Have you made any progress to figure out how to make this plugin work? It seems like it should be straight forward, but my instance of it is DOA! It doesn’t show who is online, and pressing the Say button doesn’t do anything. In it’s current state it is not useable. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I was also fixing the group wiki. I just figured out there’s a race condition in BP 1.5 with WP 3.3.1. Based on plugin load order, BP’s ajax processing occurs before the a plugin is loaded. The result is the plugin misses it’s ajax calls. Moving the init to ‘bp_init’ at priority 5 is a partial work around.

I do have an ugly fix for live-chat. It works around the race condition and should work when the race condition is fixed. The original author left others plenty of opportunity for improving the plugin. If you are using it in a live meeting, you can’t navigate to another page and be aware the chat is progressing. Second, the processing overhead for the server becomes enormous as the number of people increase. And then, there is the issue of no rich media and file transfer support.

I’m adding 2 features today, a history page tied to the group and the other it to make the chat a non-modal window. I was going to put it in the side-bar as a block, but that was just too ugly.

Is it possible for you to share the details of the fix you are using? I don’t need this chat feature to be super robust, but I would like to have some level of chat capability in the groups. I would be OK if the fix wasn’t bullet proof.

Thank you for fixing this plugin and providing a solution that works! I’m not exactly sure where the other one fell short, but your updates definitely provide the functionality I was looking for! It actually provides chat capability and even shows the group members that are in the room – imagine that!!!

I’m working on a new version from the ground up. Its become an interactive work space.. Unfortunately, its taking more time than expected without a sponsor ($$). I hope the wait will bring some new worth while to WP/BP.

The current plugin uses ajax and php as a chat motor. When 10+ chatting the load adversely affects hosted server performance. I attempted moving to RabbitMQ as the messaging engine. RabbitMQ’s memory consumption was over 100MB slowing down a host system with only 256M RAM.

I’m working on the “do it right” solution that will be able to take advantage of free chat services.

Hi guys. I have the same problem. I installed the plugin, but it does not show the users and when I type in something to chat and press the Send button nothing happens. If I am reading this post correctly, it seems that some of you have gotten an update that fixes this issue. Is this correct? If so, could someone send me an update? I really want the chat to work in the Groups I have created.
