[Plugin: BuddyPress Template Pack] Blank Page when activating BP plugin

I’ve edited the files the BP template indicates to match my page.php, however when I then activate the BP plugin my site goes blank (both the site and admin areas). Doesn’t matter if I’m logged in or not. Happens in both FF and Safari. Any suggestions on what I might check or how I might troubleshoot would be appreciated!
